I found the girder at Spitfire Motorcycles. I called Paul Cavallo at Spitfire and that is where the story of Carpe Diem began. Paul’s first question was what frame was I using? I told him I had selected a repop frame. He asked me if I could change anything about the frame, what would it be? I told him I would stretch the frame forward and backward. He told me he would make the frame and I could not order it quick enough! Paul and his guys twisted up a sick frame with the perfect rake, trail and all the other things I have no idea how to figure out.Now we are cooking and I could see a one-of-a-kind chopper build was in the works. Paul had the vision and called his fellow craftsmen buds from southern CA to put their prints on the project. The first call was to Casey at Headcase Kustom Art. Here’s the deal on Casey, let him run and you will get far more than you could have imagined. Get in the way and you will be in the way (this I know from experience). I wanted red pin striped flames and he was steadfast on blue. He could not have been more on the money (see for yourself!). He is gifted, kool and fun to collaborate with. You can’t build a build a chop with vintage style without the right leather. This is where Pascal from Riff Raff Leather entered the scene. Paul gave him a poster of the Spitfire logo with the red “helmet headed” skull with the shit-eatin’ grin who just snagged a piston from your bike (I digress…) and he nailed it! Not a little, I mean dead on. You can’t appreciate the detail unless you see this masterpiece in person. Between the secret padding Pascal put in the seat and the seat pan that Paul made in his shop, the seat is a smooth rider.Paul turned to Jason Wilson at Sacred Steel Cycles to make the exact gas tank we needed. As for the wheels, Paul paired a set of black powder coated Buchanan rims, stainless spokes and Metzler 880 rubber. This is a “can’t miss” setup and trust me, they ride as good as they look. Other than a few odds and ends from Biltwell that I wanted on the bike, Paul made or fabricated everything else such as the handle bars, foot and hand controls, oil tank, hydraulic clutch, seat pan, sprocket/rotor combo and all the other necessary parts required to build a roadworthy scoot. You see, this is what Paul is great at; making motorcycle components that are cool but above all else they are super functional. Feel free to email me with questions. This bike is located in Ohio. If you are in the area, you can take this awesome chop for a run.
